Phyllis Lehrer Event

Phyllis Lehrer is the Senior Advisor of Teacher Education at the New School for Music Study.  She has a B.A. from the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music.  Her M.S. is in piano from The Julliard School.  Phyllis comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and experience and education.  She is also a Professor Emeritus of Piano at Westminster Choir College of Rider University.

One of her recent publication projects is with Ingrid Clarfield Jacobsen.  These include 5 volumes entitled  “Classic for the Developing Pianist.”  She has other publications as well.  Study Guides; Personal Trainer, 5 volumes devoted to keyboard theory, sight playing, technique and repertoire.  These we’re co-authored with Paul Sheftel.

Phyllis will be with the Capital  Area Chapter of PMTA on October 9, 2026 at Messiah University.  She will be discussing her teaching of sonatas and sonatinas. Pathways to Chopin and the Romantic Masters is a second topic. The rest of the day will focus on Musicianship skills and artistry for developing pianists. Also combining theory, ear training and repertoire and sight reading in one lesson!  It sounds like amazing day for us!
